Often while visiting restaurants, I've overheard this a lot.
Waiter: Sir, chicken or veg?
Angry customer: Veg. PURE veg.
Now let's come to this term. Pure vegetarian.
Oxford Dictionary defines the terms pure as:
1) Not mixed or adulterated with any other substance or material
2) Free of any contamination
Now let's take a look at what vegetarian means:
1) A person who does not eat meat or fish, but consumes diary and dairy products, along with all plant products.
Cool, we're clear.
Time to ponder and find out how pure vegetarian is.
Vegetarianism says that an adult human should consume the milk of a cow, who is lactating because she's given birth to a calf. Rightfully, this cow's milk is meant for the calf. One look at the dairy industry, and you realize that the calf is taken away immediately after birth, so that we humans get the best milk from the cow. In simpler terms, we're breaking the bond between a mother and child. Is that pure?
The milk from a cow is got from artificially impregnating a cow (read: a fully grown man inserts his entire arm into the cow's vagina). The cow is also given a number of steroids and medicines, which of course manifests itself in the milk we steal from her. A cow should ideally get pregnant once in about two years. Thanks to the demand of milk, a cow gives birth once in six months. Is that pure?
The milking machines are stuck to the cow's udders to milk the cow. Most times, these machines are left overnight to the cow and she starts bleeding. Every packet of milk that you purchase has drops of blood and puss mixed in it. Is that pure?
As soon as the calf is born, if it's a female - the baby is sent to a separate place, away from her mother, given artificial milk because don't forget, you are buying the calf's actual milk. If the calf is male, he's directly promoted to the meat industry for meat. Or he's used for farming. So much for a glass of milk. Is that pure?
Cows are kept in dingy, enclosed factories, in small cubicles without any space to even move. They're constantly raped for milk, and they bear a lot of trauma from the separation of the calf. For what? To match the demand of your milk. Is that pure?
Yes, milk is very high in calcium, protein, and vitamins. But NOT for you. It is a rich source of nutrients for its baby. Just like you drank the milk of your mother. Cow's milk is for the calf. Not for you. Cow's milk does not make your bones any stronger, it only makes it weaker and brittle. It has adverse effects on your health, also thanks to all the hormones ingested in the cow. Is that pure?
The meat and diary industry is the number ONE reason for global warming. These industries are solely responsibly for millions of water usage as well as throwing back waste into earth. Is that pure?
The term "pure vegetarian" makes absolutely no sense, because it's nothing but impure.
Stop fooling yourself that by being vegetarian, you are causing no harm to an animal. You're causing more harm than you can imagine.
Even if you do take it for granted that you do not care for suffering animals, if you care for yourself and your health, refrain from it.
Most importantly, if you care for the world around you, do not participate in eroding it.
